In a large bowl, sift together flour baking powder, salt and sugar. Make a well in the center and pour in milk, egg, and butter. Mix until smooth.
Heat lightly oiled griddle or pan over medium heat. Pour or scoop about a 1/4 cup batter onto cooking surface for each pancake. Brown both sides, serve hot.
